Previous, Present, and Possible applications of social media in the classroom.

 

 

Fakebook:

Fakebook is a fake profile creator modeled on Facebook. Great for projects relating to famous figures or concepts.

 

Reddit:

Reddit is a link and content sharing site where users have the ability to up-vote or down-vote depending on a specific set of etiquette rules for the site.

 

Facebook:

An enormous social networking site designed around profiles. Good for forming and using groups.

 

Edmodo:

Edmodo Logo

A collaboration site that integrates teacher, student, and parent communication. Utilized by many teachers to build cohesion with localized communities. Allows for communities as large as entire school districts to create education based social media networks. Also has several other nifty features to help find resources and new models of communication.

Twitter:

A conversation style of social networking where users are capped at 140 characters per post. Great for flipped classroom style seminars and other succinct discussions, as well as a bulletin service.

 

Deviantart:

An art website where users can upload and comment on the work of others.

 

Pinterest:

A post-board style site for sharing and ‘pinning’ content interesting to each user. Good for ideas on various sorted subjects.

 

Tumblr:

A blogging website with a unique layout of having users reblog items.

 

Instagram:

An app and website designed to share images and videos with friends and colleagues.

 

Linkedin:

A professional networking website focused on your past work experience.

PollEverywhere:

PollEverywhere

 

A website that allows Teachers to create polls in various formats and then have students respond in a variety of formats, including text message, twitter, and the internet.

 

Snapchat:

Snapchat is a mobile device app that allows users to send text messages, and send short video or picture messages that delete themselves after viewing. It’s beenĀ used in alternative classroom models, but due to the impermeability of the content, is harder to use in active classroom learning for now.
