A hefty pricetag for ad space on Facebook’s log out page

Facebook announced it will be selling prime space on their log out page. For the minimum price (not average)of $700 000 a day, firms can place a prominent stand-alone ad on the Facebook log out page. This news is big as Facebook’s other two ad forms, the newsfeed and sidebar, do not have nearly as much exclusivity and are not as noticable. As of a couple days ago, ads for Bing, Ford, and Titanic 3D are the only ones that have been shown. With 37 million users logging out each day that’s quite the guaranteed audience.

Here is an example of the titanic ad:

It’ll be interesting to see how Facebook users will take to this new ad. Will they complain? Will they not care because it appears at the end of their Facebook experience? Only time will tell…

  1. cCubed, to me that price tag sounds a bit extreme. I realize I may not represent the majority of users, but for the most part I don’t even sign out of Facebook. When I do sign out it is usually simply by closing the window rather than clicking the log out button. I wonder if the stat of 37 million users logging out every day accounts for only those who actually view the log out page or if it includes those like me who never actually view the page? And if these users do view this page, how long will they stay on it?

  2. Hey Chris,

What a timely post. I’ve been noticing these ads on Facebook recently and was curious at the price tag. It seems the days of inexpensive advertising through social media may be leaving. That seems incredibly expensive, I wonder what the results to date have been.
