We ask all participants to review this community code of conduct before attending the conference and keep the content of this document in mind while attending and participating in the event.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What To Expect:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Land acknowledgment<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Introductions around the table &#8211; name, institution\/lab, and pronouns (or preferred way to be addressed).<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"3\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you are comfortable, please include pronouns in your zoom name (you can edit your name by clicking the three dots in the upper right corner of your video -&gt; rename).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Participation Guide:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Please let Jihyun or Natasha know of accessibility needs prior to the conference via email or during the meeting via direct chat.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We encourage participation of all forms and so there are no camera or speaking requirements.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is no pressure to attend all events of the conference, if you need to take a break or have other commitments to attend that is absolutely fine. You can leave the meeting and re-join whenever.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ground Rules:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This event is a safe space and there will be zero tolerance for harassment or discriminatory behaviour.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Please use the Hand Up function in zoom (Reactions button on bottom right -&gt; Hand Up) when you want to speak.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The time after each presentation can be used for both questions about the research\/presentation and also for free form discussion.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We encourage participants to ask questions, provide feedback or insights, and even just congratulate the speaker on a cool presentation! \ud83d\ude42\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We ask all participants to be present during the meeting and be yourself!<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><strong>We plan to record the meeting so that it can be made available to participants after the event. The recording will be password protected and only available to those who ask Jihyun or Natasha for access. Please let either one of us know if you are in any way not comfortable or would not like to be recorded. <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Tips for more inclusive meetings &#8211; in general\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Approach every interaction with others from a place of mutual respect, free of assumptions about any person\u2019s value.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Approach new ideas from a perspective of exploration and discovery, avoid defaulting to \u201cknee-jerk nay-saying\u201d.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Acknowledge and amplify the contributions of others.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our code of conduct was adapted from the community code of conduct created by UBC Biodiversity\u2019s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Reading Group and from Dr. Rachel Germain\u2019s lecture \u201cHow to do inspired science as a group\u201d from the CIEE Living Data Project course <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Scientific Collaboration in Ecology and Evolution<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/h5>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>First and foremost, our goal for this event is to create and hold an equitable and inclusive conference.
