When it comes to business ethics, Walmart just comes up in my mind. Walmart has been accused of being anti-union before for many times. Because of low prices of products and also low salaries for employees, this kind of low-cost strategy makes Walmart company afraid of the formation of union. Once the union is organized, workers may ask for more wages. In 2004, Walmart couldn’t handle sweatshop and discrimination scandals, after the examination of law enforcement, company finally gave the concession of establishing union. In 2005, the chairman and president and CEO announced a file which was talking about the statement of ethics. It included three basic beliefs which were respect for the individual, service to our customers and strive for excellence. “This statement of Ethics provides an introduction to the responsibilities of all associates along with an overview of certain important policies. This statement of Ethics is an important part of employment with Wal-Mart, but is not intended to create an express or implied contract of employment in and of itself.” written in the documents. I think the establishment of Walmart’s union is one of the successful steps from the aspect of the business ethics. Employees now have the right of decision-making. The wants of hiring more productive employees can be realized too.
