I will at some point get around to writing about these, or at least synthesizing them with others I&#8217;ve reviewed so far.<\/p>\n<p>This post will be updated over time. It&#8217;s meant as a way for me to keep track of things I want to look into more carefully and\/or collate with other principles. Eventually I&#8217;d like to map out common ones and pay attention to those that are not commonly included in sets of already-existing principles as well.<\/p>\n<p>I also have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zotero.org\/clhendricksbc\/collections\/Y39HVMEF\">a Zotero library about ethics of educational technology and artificial intelligence<\/a> that I update too.<\/p>\n<h2>Ethics in Ed Tech<\/h2>\n<h3>Ethical Ed Tech Workshop at CUNY<\/h3>\n<p>Information and resources for <a href=\"https:\/\/tlc.commons.gc.cuny.edu\/ethical-approaches-ed-tech\/\">a workshop on Ethical Approaches to Ed Tech<\/a>, by Laurie Hurson and Talisa Feliciano, as part of a Teach@CUNY 2020 Summer Institute. This web page includes <a href=\"https:\/\/tcuny2020.commons.gc.cuny.edu\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/12410\/files\/2020\/09\/Ethical-Ed-tech-tCUNY-handout.pdf\">a handout for workshop participants<\/a> that lists the following categories of questions to ask in regard to ethics &amp; ed tech:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Access<\/li>\n<li>Control<\/li>\n<li>Data<\/li>\n<li>Inclusion<\/li>\n<li>Intellectual Property &amp; Copyright<\/li>\n<li>Privacy<\/li>\n<li>Source<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>See the handout for more details!<\/p>\n<h3>UTS Ed Tech Ethics Report<\/h3>\n<p>The University of Technology, Sydney, went through <a href=\"https:\/\/cic.uts.edu.au\/projects\/edtech-ethics\/\">a deliberative democracy process in 2021 to address the following question<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span id=\"page22R_mcid2\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">What principles should govern UTS use of analytics and artificial <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">intelligence<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">to improve teaching and learning for all, while minimising <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the possibility of harmful outcomes?<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cic.uts.edu.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/UTS_EdTechEthics_DelibDemocracy_Jan2022.pdf\">A report on the process and the draft principles<\/a> was published in 2022. The categories of principles in that report are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Accountability\/Transparency<\/li>\n<li>Bias\/Fairness<\/li>\n<li>Equity and Access<\/li>\n<li>Safety and Security<\/li>\n<li>Human Authority<\/li>\n<li>Justifications\/Evidence<\/li>\n<li>Consent<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Again, see the report for more details&#8211;the principles are in the Appendix.<\/p>\n<h2>Ethics in Artificial Intelligence<\/h2>\n<h3>EU Ethical Guidelines on AI<\/h3>\n<p>In October 2022 the European Commission published a set of <a href=\"https:\/\/education.ec.europa.eu\/news\/ethical-guidelines-on-the-use-of-artificial-intelligence-and-data-in-teaching-and-learning-for-educators\">Ethical guidelines on the use of artificial intelligence and data in teaching and learning for educators.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The categories of these principles are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Human agency and oversight<\/li>\n<li>Transparency<\/li>\n<li>Diversity, non-discrimination, and fairness<\/li>\n<li>Societal and environmental wellbeing<\/li>\n<li>Privacy and data governance<\/li>\n<li>Technical robustness and safety<\/li>\n<li>Accountability<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>See <a href=\"file:\/\/\/Users\/chendric\/Downloads\/ethical%20guidelines%20on%20the%20use%20of%20artificial%20intelligence-NC0722649ENN.pdf\">the PDF version of the report<\/a> for more detail.<\/p>\n<h3>UNESCO Recommendations on the Ethics of AI<\/h3>\n<p>In 2022, <a href=\"https:\/\/unesdoc.unesco.org\/ark:\/48223\/pf0000381137\">UNESCO published a report about ethics and AI as well.<\/a> The main categories of their ethical principles are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Proportionality and do no harm<\/li>\n<li>Safety and security<\/li>\n<li>Fairness and non-discrimination<\/li>\n<li>Sustainability<\/li>\n<li>Right to privacy, and data protection<\/li>\n<li>Human oversight and determination<\/li>\n<li>Transparency and explainability<\/li>\n<li>Responsibility and accountability<\/li>\n<li>Awareness and literacy<\/li>\n<li>Multi-stakeholder and adaptive governance and collaboration<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m going to use this post just to note a few resources on ethical principles around educational technology that I haven&#8217;t yet discussed in the series I&#8217;ve been writing about ethics &amp; ed tech so far.
