The CHEQ includes questions about children\u2019s experiences prior to kindergarten, such as their interactions with others, activities at home and in the community, and access to and use of community resources and services. The information collected helps educators and community partners better understand the early experiences of children and families in the school and community. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To hear what school districts and early years partners are saying about the CHEQ, watch <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=qYxUjXQF5Xg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this video<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To view a copy of the <\/span><strong>CHEQ Questionnaire<\/strong>, click <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/cheq\/files\/2024\/03\/CHEQ_Questionnaire_Spring2024.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/cheq\/files\/2023\/08\/CHEQ_Questionnaire_2023.pdf\">.<\/a><\/p>\n<div id=\"random-accordion-id-286\" class=\"accordion-shortcode  accordion-container\">\n<h3 ><a href=\"#cheq-and-helps-child-developme-0\" >CHEQ and HELP's Child Development Monitoring System<\/a><\/h3><div id=\"cheq-and-helps-child-developme-0\" class=\"accordian-shortcode-content \" ><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The CHEQ was developed as a companion survey to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/earlylearning.ubc.ca\/monitoring-system\/edi\/edi-overview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Early Development Instrument (EDI)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to provide more context for EDI vulnerabilities. The information schools and communities receive about children's skills and competencies on the EDI relates to the amount of experience in key areas reported on the CHEQ. Data from these tools help provide a more robust understanding of how to support families before children begin kindergarten. The CHEQ is also an opportunity to capture the parent or caregiver perspective about their child's experiences as the EDI is completed by teachers and the <a href=\"https:\/\/earlylearning.ubc.ca\/monitoring-system\/mdi\/mdi-overview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Middle Years Development Instrument (MDI)<\/a> is completed by students.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Used together, our series of coherent population health data collection questionnaires provide longitudinal data about child development outcomes and contextual factors that influence these outcomes. These reports provide principals and teachers with detailed overviews of their new group of kindergarten students. This information provides insight into the specific needs of each class and informs planning for the school year.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Information is also summarized at the district and neighbourhood levels and builds on HELP\u2019s history of sharing data with community stakeholders in an effort to help create the conditions that most effectively support families. District and neighbourhood reports highlight gaps in experiences children need in order to be ready for kindergarten, and can assist stakeholders in making evidence-based decisions to improve programming and services to address these areas.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>The CHEQ can be used in schools and districts to:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Plan for the school year<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Determine school programming needs<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Better understand individual children\u2019s needs<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>The CHEQ can be used in your community to:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Provide targeted supports and services to children and their families<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Make decisions about programming and services that families want and need<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Understand barriers to accessing community health services, recreation activities, and childcare<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Government can use CHEQ data to:\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Plan early childhood investment, policy and program development, and evaluation<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Researchers use CHEQ data to:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Address important questions and drive research to help uncover more knowledge about the genetic, biological, and social determinants of children's health, well-being, and development.
