BC Environmental and Occupational Health Research Network (BCEOHRN) members are investigating collaborative ways of bringing occupational and environmental hygiene training to Bangladesh.
Our April meetings with World Health Representatives in Dhaka suggested that one priority area was scientific writing. While population and economic growth boom in Asia, growth in the number of publications coming from this region lag far behind growth in the Northern hemisphere.
We have been investigating ways of providing suitable training with appropriate follow-on support. One wonderful model is “Authoraid” and we have been discussing possible collaborations with their organizing staff and principal instructor Barbara Gastel, who has written several books on this topic I am sure you would recognize.
The Environmental Health Community is involved through related initiatives of the International Society for Environmental Epidemiology (ISEE) that is seeking NA mentors to work with authors in developing countries.
We will update this site with news as courses are developed. If you are interested in becoming involved, please contact Hugh Davies, at UBC’s School of Environmental Health.
