Biography

Hello 301!

My name is Cherie Johnson, I am a third-year student completing my degree in dental hygiene.  I have been practicing dental hygiene in a town north of Toronto for the past twelve years.  I am hoping to move from clinical practice to possibly public health or teaching.  Three years ago, I had the privilege of joining a dental team on a mission to Ecuador to provide dental services to remote areas to those in need.  This humbling experience inspired me to volunteer my services to lower income families in Ontario, and to hopefully travel again with Kindness In Action to another country.

I was born and raised in Ontario, Canada, and have been married for the past fourteen years; with two boys aged four and eight. My youngest son just started his school career in junior kindergarten last week; he talks about how long school is, he has no idea! My eldest son is in grade three at a French immersion public school, I am amazed how far he has come in his language skills since he began a few short years ago.  I wish that I knew a second language, but there’s still time :).

In my spare time, I love to play volleyball with my local women’s league, read, visit our art gallery, and partake in fine arts classes.  Last year while playing volleyball I dislocated and fractured my finger, which ended the season for me, as well as my position as a dental hygienist for a few months.  At the time, I was taking a challenging course, so the injury did have a benefit of allowing me to focus on my studying!

This photo was taken of me working on a young Ecuadorian girl at her school in the Amazon rainforest!
