Thank you, Jan, for<br \/>\nthe room. Such an excellent idea to rent a room!<\/p>\n<p>Our Chinese Canadian Librarians community is getting<br \/>\nbigger and stronger each year. As it is the norm with<br \/>\nother activities, you get out as much as you put in. I<br \/>\nencourage everyone to contribute to our community and<br \/>\nto share your knowledge and information using our<br \/>\nweblog.<\/p>\n<p>For the party this Saturday, we like to make this<br \/>\nevent a socializing, networking, and professional<br \/>\ndevelopment opportunity. If we follow Confucius\u2019<br \/>\nteaching, \u201camong three people together, (at least) one<br \/>\nwill be my teacher,\u201d imagine how many teachers you<br \/>\nwould find among more than a dozen librarians and<br \/>\nseveral former teachers?<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<br \/>\nFor your 2-3 minutes self-introduction, please also<br \/>\nshare with us your achievements, career or otherwise.<br \/>\nI will be the Timer and make sure everyone has an<br \/>\nopportunity to shine!<\/p>\n<p>If you have any topics that you wish to be addressed,<br \/>\nplease post to the blog or email me. I will take notes<br \/>\nand make sure we have a constructive discussion.<\/p>\n<p>For the $40 room rental, I propose that we share the<br \/>\ncost among us. Bring your changes to me, most likely<br \/>\n$2-3 each, excluding spouse or children.<\/p>\n<p>Food \u2013 For pot luck dinner, the usual norm is to bring<br \/>\nenough for you and your family, plus an extra portion<br \/>\nof food for one person. Bring your own drink and<br \/>\ncups\/mugs as well. Please post what you would bring to<br \/>\nthe blog so that we do not all bring the same thing. I<br \/>\nwill bring a kettle to boil water for tea. I will<br \/>\nbring tea bags as well. If you have plug-in kettles,<br \/>\nplease bring them as well.<\/p>\n<p>Poker cards \u2013 For spouses and children, please bring<br \/>\nyour own cards or games so they could have some fun at<br \/>\nanother table while we have discussions.<\/p>\n<p>All family members and friends are welcome &#8211; just<br \/>\nbring enough food\/drink for them.<\/p>\n<p>Clean-up \u2013 Jan paid an extra deposit to make sure the<br \/>\nroom is clean after our gathering. Please help clean<br \/>\nup the room so Jan could get her deposit back.<\/p>\n<p>For future gatherings, if you like such facility and<br \/>\nformat, please let us know. If you have better ideas<br \/>\nor venues, share with us. Or better yet, organize the<br \/>\nnext gathering.
