The CIA regularly provides current information to the President of the United States and senior U.S. Government officials, and librarians contribute an essential role within this function by meeting the critical information needs of our various offices, sometimes on quite short notice, as well as through more traditional duties of the profession. In addition to working directly out of<br \/>\nits large Headquarters facility, librarians also have opportunities to relocate within other Agency offices, serving as resource experts for their particular needs. Our Library maintains strong working relationships with other Intelligence Community libraries and the Library of Congress, as well as with selected academic institutions and other resources.Responsibilities vary depending on assignment but may<br \/>\ninclude providing support of current intelligence<br \/>\nproduction, using a broad variety of classified and<br \/>\nunclassified resources in both electronic and<br \/>\nhard-copy formats; utilizing Agency and other<br \/>\ngovernment or academic resources; training customers<br \/>\nin the use of electronic resources; providing a<br \/>\nvariety of briefings to other offices on Library<br \/>\nservices; participating in the planning of Library<br \/>\nmarketing events; managing acquisitions and collection<br \/>\ndevelopment for hard-copy and electronic resources;<br \/>\ncataloging hard-copy and electronic resources; and<br \/>\nrepresenting the Library while serving in selected<br \/>\nother Agency offices as a resource focal point. In any<br \/>\nof the above responsibilities, there are on-going<br \/>\nneeds for direct application of East Asian, Chinese or<br \/>\nArabic language skills.<\/p>\n<p>Positions are in the metropolitan Washington, DC area,<br \/>\nwith limited opportunities for temporary overseas<br \/>\ntravel. In addition to salary and benefits, Librarians<br \/>\nwith proficiency in an East Asian language, Chinese or<br \/>\nArabic are eligible to earn annual language &#8220;bonus&#8221;<br \/>\npay based on in-house language testing. Librarians may<br \/>\nalso have the opportunity to take courses in<br \/>\nadditional languages and area studies as well as other<br \/>\nrelevant training. As a part of the screening process,<br \/>\nselected applicants will be sent a language<br \/>\nproficiency test.<\/p>\n<p>Minimum requirements include a master\u2019s degree in<br \/>\nlibrary\/information science from an American Library<br \/>\nAssociation accredited program. For those with East<br \/>\nAsian, Chinese or Arabic language skills, a general<br \/>\nprofessional proficiency is required. Excellent<br \/>\ninterpersonal, writing, communications and customer<br \/>\nservice skills are also needed.<\/p>\n<p>All applicants must successfully complete a thorough<br \/>\nmedical and psychological exam, a polygraph interview<br \/>\nand an extensive background investigation. US<br \/>\ncitizenship is required. To be considered suitable for<br \/>\nAgency employment, applicants must generally not have<br \/>\nused illegal drugs within the last twelve months.
