Apple Inc, the American Multinational Corporation, has been accused of “serious labour right violations” this year leaning towards the production of the latest iPhone 5c. The allegation came from a electronics manufacturer named “Jabil Circuit” who have a large range of China based labour. Having a very high brand loyaly reputation, how and why did Apple Inc think they would be able to get away with such a immoral action?
Business ethics is what keeps the business world a more safe and livable environment for employees. A concern that came up by the “Jabil Circuit” employees was the “millions of dollars in unpaid overtime wages.” Why would a company with revenues of US$ 156.508 billion in 2012, not pay their workers overtime? Why would Apple have affiliations with suppliers who hire “14 year old inters”?
The reason ethics were created in the business world is because businesses have one main purpose, obtaining the highest level of profits possible. They are able to do the most disgusting and inhumain things, like exploit workers in Apple’s case, just in order to have a lower cost of production and therefore make higher profits. Legal action has to be taken against firms like Apple as this is an unethical thing to do in our day to day world.
