{"id":59,"date":"2011-11-09T21:57:42","date_gmt":"2011-11-10T04:57:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/chuahiock\/?p=59"},"modified":"2011-11-13T18:56:53","modified_gmt":"2011-11-14T01:56:53","slug":"trending","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/chuahiock\/2011\/11\/09\/trending\/","title":{"rendered":"#Trending"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Since the <del datetime=\"2011-11-14T01:54:32+00:00\">early 1800&#8217;s<\/del> time of the Romans&#8217;, Marketers have already tried billions of, if not more, ways to sell a certain product.<\/p>\n<p>Marketers would always come up with the most ingenious ideas just get their products to be known, even using a telegraph during the 1800&#8217;s!<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/dbcsound.com\/UserFiles\/image\/telegraph1.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\nYes, you&#8217;ve read right! <span><strong>A TELEGRAPH!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Fun fact 1: The first unsolicited mass spam message was sent out during 1864 via a TELEGRAPH, and it was a commercial for investment opportunities!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/pzrservices.typepad.com\/advertisingisgoodforyou\/images\/2007\/05\/06\/spam_can_1.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"175\" height=\"153\" \/><br \/>\nFun fact 2: Did you know that the term &#8220;SPAM&#8221; was originally an acronym for &#8220;Sales Promotion and Marketing&#8221;?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Through out the years, marketers have been using various amounts of channels to be able to advertise their products to their desired customer segment and target market.<\/p>\n<p>Today, one of the major channels being used is social media!<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.social2b.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/social_media_logos.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>From Facebook to Twitter, marketers have been exploiting this channel because it can reach millions, if not billions, of people for virtually no cost.<\/p>\n<p>Teah, a classmate of mine in my Marketing class, has posted a blog on how Twitter was able to help Carnival Cruise Lines and Cirque du Soleil reach their customers.<br \/>\nIn her blog, <em>&#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/teahcaze\/2011\/11\/09\/marketing-blog-3-adding-value-through-twitter\/\">Marketing Blog #3: Adding Value Through Twitter<\/a>&#8220;<\/em>, Teah highlights benefits of using social media, such as Twitter, to a company, especially in trying to communicate to their customers about upcoming promos, events and the like.<\/p>\n<p>Twitter came to life during 2006, and during then, no one could really grasp the potential of such a simple concept.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.webcretins.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/twitter-evolution-300x175.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"175\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Today, Marketers need to be up-to-date with the current marketing trends that are, for lack of a better term, &#8220;trending&#8221; in our current world to be able to have a competitive advantage against their competitors.<\/p>\n<p>One of the hottest trends today is online marketing!
