Cindy Yu is an operational meteorologist working for Environment and Climate Change Canada, and an unclassified student at UBC.
Graduated from UBC in 2007 with a Bachelor Degree in Science specialized in Atmospheric Science, Cindy has been working as a meteorologist for the past ten years.
During her 3rd and 4th year at UBC, she has worked as a part-time weather producer at CTV Vancouver. After graduation, she relocated to Toronto to work as a meteorologist at The Weather Network, spending more time producing graphics for TV segments.
In 2008, she applied for a job with Environment Canada and moved back to Vancouver. She has been working as an operational meteorologist for Pacific Storm Prediction Centre since 2009.
Cindy’s responsibilities at the Pacific Storm Prediction Centre include the production of the public and marine forecast for the Province of British Columbia, High Arctic and Yukon Territory, and issuance of weather alerts such as advisories, watches, and warnings of different weather hazards. She engages with stakeholders, key clients and other decision makers such other government agencies, and industries such as media, film, construction, agriculture and transportation sectors; and she provides critical weather information to help these partners, stakeholders, and clients with their decision-making.
Cindy enjoys her work, and she regularly provides guest lectures at local universities, exhibitions and trade shows.
