Retired people, private sector employees and the self-employed have a higher percentage of relocation through infrastructure development. These people including, for example, street vendors are more likely to reside in the inner areas where redevelopment projects are located. While socio-demographic profiles vary across the types of residential relocation, they are not starkly different. Some households such as the family that has one member working in the private sector and the other in the state sector are still able to choose the method of residential relocation. Retired people are under-represented in this method of relocation, because they have a much lower chance of receiving housing allocation after retirement.

Retired people, private sector employees and the self-employed might either choose active relocation or being relocated due to infrastructure development, depending on their income status and life arrangement (p.460).
Writer’s comment:
This is a very big generalization of the whole context. What I wanted to express is actually there are some people who meet criteria of being compensated…Based on the debate of the subject, this is the important characteristics of China’s context. But the author didn’t summarize the context. I hope to highlight the context…this is why I generalize it…But on the other hand, if I highlight too much about the political status, did I change the author’s idea?
