Episode 1 (Self-Interview) – November 17th – Sean

Brief Intro

Hi, there welcome to Season’s of Life your favorite sentimental radio show. For every show, I will try to post songs and lyrics chosen by our guests so you can follow along. If the episode is changed into a podcast (Only happens with the permission of the guests) I will also post that. There will be comments so you can forward your thoughts and I can get feedback! Also, in this episode, you can hear me eat soup… which was not intended but apparently charming nonetheless.

Listen Here (This episode was made in haste due to a scheduling error, therefore it is not as polished as I would normally have liked)

Lyrics

Big Yellow Taxi – Joni Mitchell

So they paved paradise
Put up a parking lot
With a pink hotel, a boutique and a swingin’ night spot

Don’t it always seem to go
That you don’t know what you got ’til it’s gone
They paved paradise put up a parking lot

They took all the trees
Put ’em in a tree museum
And they charged all the people an arm and a leg just to see ’em

Don’t it always seem to go
That you don’t know what you got ’til it’s gone
They paved paradise put up a parking lot

Hey, farmer
Put away your DDT
Give me spots on my apples but leave me the birds and bees please

Don’t it always seem to go
You don’t know what you got ’til it’s gone
They paved paradise put up a parking lot

Late last night
I heard the screen door slam
And a big yellow taxi come and took away my old man

Oh, don’t it always seem to go
You don’t know what you got ’til it’s gone
They paved paradise put up a parking lot

They put up a parking lot

A parking lot
Paved paradise

Pure Comedy – Father John Misty

At six
For some reason when I go…

The comedy of man starts like this
Our brains are way too big for our mothers’ hips
And so Nature, she divines this alternative
We emerged half-formed and hope that whoever greets us on the other end
Is kind enough to fill us in
And, babies, that’s pretty much how it’s been ever since

Now the miracle of birth leaves a few issues to address
Like, say, that half of us are periodically iron deficient
So somebody’s got to go kill something while I look after the kids
I’d do it myself, but what, are you going to get this thing its milk?
He says as soon as he gets back from the hunt, we can switch
It’s hard not to fall in love with something so helpless
Ladies, I hope we don’t end up regretting this

Comedy, now that’s what I call pure comedy
Just waiting until the part where they start to believe
They’re at the center of everything
And some all powerful being endowed this horror show with meaning

Oh, their religions are the best
They worship themselves yet they’re totally obsessed
With risen zombies, celestial virgins, magic tricks, these unbelievable outfits
And they get terribly upset
When you question their sacred texts
Written by woman-hating epileptics

Their languages just serve to confuse them
Their confusion somehow makes them more sure
They build fortunes poisoning their offspring
And hand out prizes when someone patents the cure
Where did they find these goons they elected to rule them?
What makes these clowns they idolize so remarkable?
These mammals are hell-bent on fashioning new gods
So they can go on being godless animals

Oh comedy, their illusions they have no choice but to believe
Their horizons that just forever recede
And how’s this for irony, their idea of being free is a prison of beliefs
That they never ever have to leave

Oh comedy, oh it’s like something that a madman would conceive!
The only thing that seems to make them feel alive is the struggle to survive
But the only thing that they request is something to numb the pain with
Until there’s nothing human left
Just random matter suspended in the dark
I hate to say it, but each other’s all we got

Alexander All Alone – Andy Shauf

Alexander all alone
Smoking a cigarette
The last pack he’d ever buy
At least that’s what he said
He stood up to stretch his back
And fell down to the ground

Alexander all alone
Til the neighbor caught a glimpse
Cried out for his wife to call the ambulance
Alexander all alone
Felt them check his pulse
He heard them pronounce him dead

Hell is found inside of me
And nothing else will set me free
If hell is found inside of me
Then open me up and spit me out

Alexander wondered why
No life flashed before his eyes
Why his soul did not depart
Why he found no peace of mind
Would it take a little while
Was it the same for everyone
Alexander realized
That hell is found inside of me
And nothing else will set me free
If hell is found inside of me
Then open me up and spit me out

Counting Sheep – Shakey Graves

Ooh, ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh, ooh
Ah-ah

Sweet dream, let me lay you down
Hold your breath, don’t make a sound
Baby honestly can you sleep
I’ve been getting pretty good at counting sheep

I am the very specimen
Of a sleepwalking gentleman
If I die before I wake
Save my dream for another day

‘Cause tonight
I got nothing on my mind
But you
Somewhere, somehow
You’ll feel it too
Ooh, don’t you take a bow at the last
Curtain call
Thinking you’re nobody’s nothing after all

Nothing after all
You’re something after all

Sweet dream, let me lay you down
Hope your feet don’t touch the ground
It’s getting late, why can’t I sleep
I’ve been getting pretty good at counting sheep

I am the very specimen
Of a sleepwalking gentlemen
If I die before I wake
Save my dreams for another day

‘Cause tonight
Oh, I’ve got nothing on my mind
But you
Somewhere, somehow
You’ll feel it too
Ooh, don’t you take a bow at the last
Curtain call
Thinking you’re nobody’s nothing after all

Nothing after all
You’re somebody’s something after all

Tonight
I got nothing on my mind
But you
Somewhere, somehow
You’ll feel it too
Ooh, don’t you take a bow at the last
Curtain call
Thinking you’re nobody’s nothing after all

You’re somebody’s something after all
You’re somebody’s something after all

Maneater – Nelly Furtado

[Verse 1]
Everybody look at me, me
I walk in the door you start screaming
Come on everybody what you here for?
Move your body around like a nympho
Everybody get your necks to crack around
All you crazy people come on jump around
I want to see you all on your knees, knees
You either want to be with me, or be me!

[Chorus:]
Maneater, make you work hard
Make you spend hard
Make you want all, of her love
She’s a maneater
make you buy cars
make you cut cards
make you fall, real hard in love
She’s a Maneater, make you work hard
Make you spend hard
Make you want all, of her love
She’s a maneater
make you buy cars
make you cut cards
Wish you never ever met her at all!

[Verse 2]
And when she walks she walks with passion
when she talks, she talks like she can handle it
when she asks for something boy she means it
even if you never ever seen it
everybody get your necks to crack around
all you crazy people come on jump around
you doing anything to keep her by your side
because, she said she love you, love you long time!

[Chorus]

[Chants]

[Chorus]

Never ever met her at all!
you wish you never ever met her at all!
you wish you never ever met her at all!
you wish you never ever met her at all!
you wish you never ever met her at all!

Rainbow Connection – The Muppets

Why are there so many
Songs about rainbows?
And what’s on the other side
Rainbows have visions
And only illusions
Rainbows have nothing to hide
So we’ve been told
And some choose to believe it
I know they’re wrong wait and see
Someday we’ll find it
The rainbow connection
The lovers, the dreamers and me

Who says that ev’ry wish
Would be heard and answered
When wished on a morning star
Somebody thought of that
And someone believed it
Look what it’s done so far
What’s so amazing
That keeps us star-gazing?

And what do you think we might see
Someday we’ll find it
The rainbow connection
The lovers, the dreamers and me

[Coda:]
All of us under it’s spell
We know that it’s probably magic

Have you been half asleep
And have you heard voices
I’ve heard them calling my name
Is this the sweet sound
That calls the young sailors
The voice might be one and the same
I’ve heard it too many times to ignore it
It’s something that I’m supposed to be
Someday we’ll find it
The rainbow connection
The lovers, the dreamers and me

Seattle Party – Chastity Belt

Your tattoos are so deep
They really make me think
And your life has been so rough
You’ve been through so much

We are having a party tonight
We are inviting our best friends
So we can have a good time

Are there others
Out there
Who think like us

Are there others
And are they having fun
I think they’re having fun
I think they’re having fun

If you dance if you dance
No girl will give you a chance
You’re a cool guy
You won’t look us in the eye

We are having a party tonight
We are inviting our best friends
So they can have a good time

Are there others
Out there
Who think like us

Are there others
And are they having fun
I think they’re having fun
Are we having fun?

Are we having fun?
Are we having fun?
