{"id":12,"date":"2018-01-22T18:46:23","date_gmt":"2018-01-23T01:46:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/citymaking\/?page_id=12"},"modified":"2022-12-23T02:36:39","modified_gmt":"2022-12-23T09:36:39","slug":"about","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/citymaking\/","title":{"rendered":"ABOUT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>PLAN 211 City-Making: A Global Perspective\u00a0<\/strong>\u2014 an undergraduate course first developed by Dr. Su-Jan Yeo \u2014 was launched in September 2017 to a pioneer cohort of 47 students at the University of British Columbia (UBC).<\/p>\n<p>Embedded in the course curriculum is the time-sensitive and team-based \u201cIdeathon Challenge\u201d \u2014 a platform on which students generate outcome-oriented ideas to a real-world planning scenario. This pedagogic experiment was awarded the UBC Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Seed Grant. As principal investigator and course instructor, Su-Jan conducted an <a href=\"https:\/\/isotl.ctlt.ubc.ca\/2019\/12\/18\/the-ideathon-challenge-as-pedagogic-method-towards-interdisciplinary-collaboration-innovation-and-applied-learning-a-case-study\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">evaluative study (2017-2019)<\/a> to assess the effectiveness of the Ideathon Challenge as a pedagogic method in promoting interdisciplinary collaboration, innovation, and applied learning.<\/p>\n<p>The Finale Edition in September 2022, with a cohort of 74 students, concluded Su-Jan&#8217;s 5-year run with PLAN 211 and the Ideathon Challenge. It is hoped that the documented journey on this website and in this <a href=\"https:\/\/strategicplan.ubc.ca\/co-creating-a-future-beyond-the-classroom\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UBC Story<\/a> will inform and inspire others.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><em>The learning and teaching in PLAN 211 takes place at The University of British Columbia (UBC) Vancouver Point Grey campus\u2014located on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the <\/em>x<sup>w<\/sup>m\u0259\u03b8k<sup>w<\/sup>\u0259y\u0313\u0259m<em>\u00a0(Musqueam) people.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PLAN 211 City-Making: A Global Perspective\u00a0\u2014 an undergraduate course first developed by Dr. Su-Jan Yeo \u2014 was launched in September 2017 to a pioneer cohort of 47 students at the University of British Columbia (UBC).
