The overarching goal was to generate innovative ideas for the transformation of these sites into engaging <strong>\u201cdestination nodes\u201d<\/strong> that strengthen <strong><em>sense of place<\/em><\/strong> and support <strong><em>social interactions<\/em><\/strong>.<\/h3>\n<h3><strong>REAL-WORLD PROBLEM SCENARIOS<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Site A: Quilchena Park (W 33rd Ave &amp; Pine Crescent)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>How can the site help to promote neighbourliness and spark renewed public interest in Quilchena Park as an urban green asset for residents and users of the Arbutus Greenway?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Site B: Kerrisdale Junction (W 41st Ave &amp; West\/East Boulevard)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>How can the site leverage on existing street activities to serve as an attractive, vibrant, and safe public gathering space along this car-centric segment of the Arbutus Greenway?<\/p>\n<h3><strong>GUIDING PARAMETERS<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Idea proposals were required to:<\/p>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 1\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Frame the project within a timespan of one year.<\/li>\n<li>Consider temporary interventions which could be structural and\/or programmatic.<\/li>\n<li>Consider the roles that technology might play, if any.<\/li>\n<li>Consider the feasibility of implementation in terms of time, resources, and stakeholders\u2019 needs\/concerns.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3><strong>LEARNING OBJECTIVES<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Upon successful completion of the Ideathon Challenge, students could expect to:<\/p>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 2\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Gain practical experience in a real-world project by participating actively and constructively in the process of city-making.<\/li>\n<li>Transfer insights gleaned from the classroom as well as through research and fieldwork.<\/li>\n<li>Develop work skills to collaborate in an interdisciplinary team.<\/li>\n<li>Innovate through the creative process of ideation and problem-solving.<\/li>\n<li>Acquire effective communication skills (visual, oral, written).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3><b>DELIVERABLES<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>Student teams were required to deliver the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Presentation Pitch<\/li>\n<li>Slide Deck<\/li>\n<li>Project Report<\/li>\n<li>Exhibition Poster (HUBBUB teams)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>COMMUNITY PARTNERS<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The project theme and scope of the 2017 Ideathon Challenge was made possible through a collaboration with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.citystudiovancouver.com\/\">CityStudio Vancouver<\/a>\u00a0and the two project sites were thoughtfully deliberated with the <a href=\"http:\/\/vancouver.ca\/streets-transportation\/arbutus-greenway.aspx\">Arbutus Greenway Team<\/a> at City of Vancouver.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The inaugural 2017 Ideathon Challenge focused on two distinct sites along the Arbutus Greenway.
