A Guide for Front-Line Staff, Student Services, and Advisors<\/em> is part of an open professional learning series developed for staff across post-secondary institutions in British Columbia. These guides are the result of the Indigenization Project, a collaboration between BCcampus and the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills and Training. The project was supported by a steering committee of Indigenous education leaders from BC universities, colleges, and institutes, the First Nations Education Steering Committee, the Indigenous Adult and Higher Learning Association, and M\u00e9tis Nation BC. These guides are intended to support the systemic change occurring across post-secondary institutions through Indigenization, decolonization, and reconciliation.<\/p>\n

\nAuthors:<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Ian Cull<\/strong>\u00a0was the inaugural Senior Advisor to the DVC on Indigenous Affairs at UBC (Okanagan). Before this, he served as Associate Vice-President, Students since UBC Okanagan opened in 2005. He has been instrumental in building outstanding partnerships and programs to support Indigenous culture, history, language, philosophy and knowledge on campus during the past 15 years. He is a member of Dokis Indian Band located in Ontario, Canada.<\/p>\n

Stephanie Mckeown<\/strong>\u00a0works as the chief institutional research officer at the University of British Columbia. Stephanie conducts educational and institutional research to inform Educational Policy, Educational Management and Educational Assessment.<\/p>\n

Adrienne Vedan<\/strong> is the Senior Advisor to the DVC on Indigenous Affairs. Before this, she served as Director of Aboriginal Programs and Services, for which she was appointed in 2012. A member of the Okanagan Indian Band, born and raised in the North Okanagan, Adrienne studied at Okanagan University College, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in history.<\/p>\n

\nUBC Okanagan Classroom Artwork Project <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

The University of British Columbia Okanagan Classroom Artwork Project<\/em> aims to display academically inspiring artwork in classrooms and other teaching areas of the university.<\/span><\/p>\n

Artwork displayed as part of this project \u2013 including the covers of books and journals containing work written or edited by UBCO scholars and researchers \u2013 is intended to help enliven university teaching spaces, educate classroom users about the connections between research and teaching, and introduce members of the broader public to some of the research and scholarship carried out at UBCO.<\/span><\/p>\n
