pro\/con\/textual EME 1153<\/p>\n The exhibition titled pro\/con\/textual brings together works of three Canadian artists working in print media, Briar Craig, Ericka Walker, and Mark Bovey. Despite the fact that all three artists work in a variety of print-based processes and subject matter, there are some underlying similarities in their individual conceptual and aesthetic strategies. All three artists use text in their work in a unique way, they address various levels and sources of histories concerning their subject matter and processes, and despite the lack of conclusive and clear narratives, all three artists\u2019 work contain visual elements with strong associative qualities based in pluralistic narratives.<\/p>\n (Description Source: issuu<\/a>) Briar Craig<\/b> received a BFA in printmaking from Queen\u2019s University, Kingston, ON, Canada in 1984 and an MFA in printmaking from the University of Alberta, Edmonton, AB, Canada in 1987.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n His prints have been awarded a number of prizes:\u00a0 the Stand Out Prize at Stand Out Prints 2016 at the Highpoint Center for Printmaking (Minneapolis, MN); Merit Award Winner, America\u2019s 2014 all media exhibition (Minot, ND); the Juror\u2019s Selected prize at the 2013 North American Print Biennial (Boston MA); Honorable Mention at the Pacific Rim International print Exhibition 2013 (Christchurch, New Zealand); 2nd Prize at Imprima 2012 (Sobral, Brazil); 2nd Prize Winner (one of his students achieve first prize) at the Open Studio Canadian Printmaking Awards (Toronto, Canada) and Special Prize Winner at the 1st International Print and Painting Biennial 2008 (Istanbul, Turkey).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n He has held positions as an assistant professor of Art at the University of Minnesota, Morris campus (1987 \u2013 1991); assistant and associate professor at Okanagan University College (1991 \u2013 2005); he is currently a professor at the University of British Columbia\u2019s Okanagan campus (2005 \u2013 present) in Kelowna, BC, Canada.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n UBC Library Holdings<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n https:\/\/tinyurl.com\/yxvl7gtx<\/a><\/p>\n From the Publisher – Vernon Public Art Gallery<\/a><\/span> Paper ISBN: 9781927407189<\/span><\/p>\n The University of British Columbia Okanagan Classroom Artwork Project<\/em> aims to display academically inspiring artwork in classrooms and other teaching areas of the university.<\/span><\/p>\n Artwork displayed as part of this project \u2013 including the covers of books and journals containing work written or edited by UBCO scholars and researchers \u2013 is intended to help enliven university teaching spaces, educate classroom users about the connections between research and teaching, and introduce members of the broader public to some of the research and scholarship carried out at UBCO.<\/span><\/p>\n
