work sample 4 (Map of Vancouver Tsunami Danger Zone)

Using ArcGIS, I created a map of Vancouver with the tsunami danger zone clearly delineated, the road network affected, the land use areas affected, and the signage layer.

Here are a few geographical analyses and explanations:

  • percentage of the City of Vancouver’s total area is in danger:     20314805.889169/131033339.950334 = 15.503%
  • method I use to find the percentage:  Open the Attribute Table of “Vancouver_danger” and “Vancouvermask”  and find the sum areas of each: 20314805.889169,  131033339.950334
  • To create a layer containing the health care and educational facilities within the City of Vancouver danger zone:  1)use the Intersect tool; 2)input features “Vancouver_health” and “Vancouver_danger”; 3)input features “Vancouver_education” and “Vancouver_danger”.
