Leaves: dull green, twisted when dry
Sporophyte: grooved, dry, dark brown when mature (in spring)
Dicranum pallidisetum: Dry leaves not twisted, yellow seta, Pale brown sporophyte.
Species name (fuscescens) means browning with age
