General / Habitat
- Shaded swampy sites
- On decaying logs in broad-leaved forests or on forest floors
Key Identifying Characteristics
- Translucent, light to dark green leaves
- Flower like rosette leaves at tip, decurrent leaves along stem
- Several sporophytes from female plants
Lookalikes
- Plagiomnium ciliare - female plants produce single sporophyte instead
- Plagiomnium cuspidatum and Plagiomnium drummondii : leaf with toothed margins only on the upper part of the leaf (vs. Plagiomnium insigue has toothed margins from the base to the tip of the leaf)
- Plagiomnium venustum : on well drained sites, half the size of Plagiomnium insigue
