Definition Assignment
The purpose of the definition assignment was to consider audience and tone. We learned to appreciate the importance and role of definitions in technical writing and understand how audience and purpose indicate the need for definition. The assignment taught us the difference in levels of details between a parenthetical definition, sentence definition, and expanded definition. My assignment was successful in explaining the technical term In Vitro Fertilization as I organize the categories in a logical manner and made effective use of diagrams in appropriate sections. Formal Report Proposal
In constructing the formal report proposal, we had to brainstorm ideas which will allow us to investigate, analyze, and recommend actions on a problem. The project allowed us to draw upon our own experiences which made researching the report an enjoyable experience. I chose a topic for which I thought interested me the most and is a topic which I was able to explore objectively, provide useful information and reasonable recommendations. Complaint Letter
The purpose of the complaint letter assignment is to teach us the various strategies involved in writing an effective business document. For a complaint letter, it is especially important to provide details, facts and requests that presents oneself as a reasonable customer instead of writing an angry and irrational letter. I have employed a number of strategies in my complaint letter such as offering compliments, accentuating the positive, maintaining a neutral tone and offering reasonable compromises. Peer Review
One of the most important aspects of peer review is writing with the “You attitude”. I have improved on this aspect through out the term and have learned to construct different peer reviews to match the type of review document and provide thoughtful and helpful feedback.
