{"id":6,"date":"2017-01-08T22:22:56","date_gmt":"2017-01-09T05:22:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/collaborativesustainabilityedu\/?page_id=6"},"modified":"2018-10-09T03:38:52","modified_gmt":"2018-10-09T10:38:52","slug":"community-garden","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/collaborativesustainabilityedu\/community-garden\/","title":{"rendered":"Urban Garden and Placemaking"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Gardening heals people.\u00a0 Gardening gathers people.\u00a0 Gardening provides foods.<\/p>\n<p>I have volunteered in the several groups in Vancouver, for 1)therapeutic purpose, 2)educational purpose,\u00a0 3)commodity purpose, and 4)community building.<\/p>\n<p>1) Photo 1 and 2 were taken when I volunteered for the groups who had mental health\/disability through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.evergreen.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Evergreen<\/a>.\u00a0 The clients connected to the nature and society (some of them earned for watering).\u00a0 They enjoyed harvesting and tasting the foods that they took care of.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-61\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/collaborativesustainabilityedu\/files\/2017\/01\/12184083_10153263811523014_6436213842934293573_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2048\" height=\"1536\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/collaborativesustainabilityedu\/files\/2017\/01\/12184083_10153263811523014_6436213842934293573_o.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/collaborativesustainabilityedu\/files\/2017\/01\/12184083_10153263811523014_6436213842934293573_o-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/collaborativesustainabilityedu\/files\/2017\/01\/12184083_10153263811523014_6436213842934293573_o-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/collaborativesustainabilityedu\/files\/2017\/01\/12184083_10153263811523014_6436213842934293573_o-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2048px) 100vw, 2048px\" \/> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-62\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/collaborativesustainabilityedu\/files\/2017\/01\/12185353_10153252814183014_1025331534578739904_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"3024\" height=\"1358\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/collaborativesustainabilityedu\/files\/2017\/01\/12185353_10153252814183014_1025331534578739904_o.jpg 3024w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/collaborativesustainabilityedu\/files\/2017\/01\/12185353_10153252814183014_1025331534578739904_o-300x135.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/collaborativesustainabilityedu\/files\/2017\/01\/12185353_10153252814183014_1025331534578739904_o-768x345.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/collaborativesustainabilityedu\/files\/2017\/01\/12185353_10153252814183014_1025331534578739904_o-1024x460.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 3024px) 100vw, 3024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.spec.bc.ca\/Demonstration-gardens\">2) SPEC Cambie Communal Garden<\/a>\u00a0(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.spec.bc.ca\">Society Promoting Environmental Conservation<\/a>).\u00a0 The garden was managed and shared by members.\u00a0 There was an unpaid coordinator (not like other groups).\u00a0 Everyone was volunteers.\u00a0 It was often hard to get a commitment by some volunteers.<\/p>\n<p>3) <a href=\"https:\/\/eya.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Environmental Youth Alliance<\/a> has solid programs for youth to learn gardening\/pollinators.<\/p>\n<p>4) <a href=\"https:\/\/freshroots.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fresh Roots<\/a> has educational and commodity purpose of garden.\u00a0 There were interns from high schools and universities when I was volunteering.\u00a0 Garden volunteers and intern can learn the whole cycle of urban farming.<\/p>\n<p>5) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.myvacs.org\/permaculture-and-art-program\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vancouver Arts Colloquium Society &#8211; Permaculture and Art Program<\/a> &#8211; The program was educational purpose, but community building purpose was stronger.<\/p>\n<p>All of the organizations are non-profit.\u00a0 Searching funding and volunteers seemed key to sustain their activities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gardening heals people.\u00a0 Gardening gathers people.\u00a0 Gardening provides foods.
