Prep for Oct 30: Organizational PR

Before class, please:
  1. Read “Internally Yours: 3 Ideas to Strengthen Employee Communications” (Amy Kot, PRSA, March 2, 2016). Consider: what have employee communications been like where you have worked or volunteered? What worked and didn’t work?
  2. Read “Should CEOs Respond When Employees Complain About Them Online?” (Sarah Clayton, Harvard Business Review, April 3, 2017). Consider: under what conditions do you believe it would be appropriate and wise for a CEO to respond to online complaints by employees? Have you ever complained online about an employer? Why or why not?
    • If the direct link to this article does not work for you, remember that you can always find HBR articles via the UBC Library website. On the home page in the “Journal Titles” box, type Harvard Business Review, then search for the article in the Business Source Complete database using the article information above.
    • Note: there are lots of interesting hyperlinks from the HBR article… Feel free to explore any of them, but they are optional reading.
  3. Complete the short Prep Quiz for Oct 30: Organizational PR based on the assigned readings for this class. This quiz will close at 11:30 am on Monday, October 30, so be sure to catch this deadline. You will have just one attempt to complete each Prep Quiz, so you are encouraged to complete your readings before attempting it.
