Prep for Sep 11: History and Context of PR
Before class, please:
- Read “Models and Approaches to Public Relations” (Shannon A. Bowen, Brad Rawlins, and Thomas Martin, 2010), which you can find in the course package.
- Listen to (or read the online transcript of) the Under the Influence podcast, “Summer Series – The Wizarding World of Influencer Marketing” (Terry O’Reilly, July 27, 2017). Consider: who are the most important influencers for the companies you admire? Do those companies seem to be aware of the importance of those influencers?
- Review the “Glossary of Terms” on the Public Relations Society of America’s website.
- Complete the short Prep Quiz for Sep 11: History and Context of PR (hyperlink will take you directly to the quiz on Connect) based on the assigned readings for this class. This quiz will close at 11:30 am on Monday, September 11, so be sure to catch this deadline.
- NOTE: Prep Quizzes based on the assigned readings for each class will be due by 11:30 am (unless otherwise noted in the day’s course prep instructions). These will be short (4-7 multiple choice, true/false, or short answer questions) and will draw directly from the readings. You will have just one attempt to complete each Prep Quiz, so you are encouraged to complete your readings before attempting them.
Optional extra (will not be on the prep quiz):
- Listen to (or read the online transcript of) the Under the Influence podcast, “Summer Series – Grab Your Wallet: When Brands Go Political” (Terry O’Reilly, August 24, 2017). Consider: what has led to the current environment in which some brands feel compelled to address social issues in their marketing?
