Just last year, I was introduced to Nature Bee and their Bees Wax Wraps, which are reusable food wraps made from 100% cotton, Vancouver Island sourced beeswax, pine tree resin, and jojoba oil. Nature Bee is a Canadian, woman-run business that aims to make sustainability more attainable and achievable for your everyday life. Since then, I have been using Nature Bee’s Wraps as a replacement for single-use, plastic saran wrap. These wraps come in a variety of different sizes and designs that are perfect for everyday use.
Recently, I was surprised to learn more about Nature Bee’s other products, more specifically their foaming hand soap tablets, bathroom cleaner, and multi-purpose cleaning tablets. Nature Bee’s cleaning tablets dissolve in 350 ml – 500 ml water to create the perfect solution while reducing plastic waste. I was pleased to learn that these tablets are also cheaper than buying a traditional bottle of soap. So with the benefits of conscious packaging, clean ingredients, effective formulas, and cost savings, why would anyone want to stick to traditional bottles of soap? One reason that came to mind was convenience. Although concentrated soap tablets are an amazing innovation, they aren’t widely distributed and available at your typical grocery store or shopping mall. When reviewing Nature Bee’s distribution, I found that they mainly distribute at small, specialty shops or supermarkets that specialize in natural and organic foods, such as Whole Foods.
Fortunately, concentrated soap tablets are slowly becoming more adopted and well-known globally. Eco-friendly consumers can shop at stores such as Everdrop, a German manufacturer of sustainable cleaning products, and Myni, another Canadian manufacturer. With the wide spread of concentrated soap tablets that support sustainable cleaning, we can be hopeful that this innovation becomes more widely adopted. Soon, it may be the only way we use cleaning products in our everyday lives.

The importance of package-free products and enabling reuse is so important! I think having small businesses garner a lot of success from their innovation creates a larger call to action for big corporations to take a stand and conceptualize ways to meet consumers where they’re at. For instance, Dial Soap has recognized the costs of production and waste resulting from having single-use pumps and created foaming handwash concentrates – allowing consumers to buy soap for cheaper and also minimize their impact and the shelf space that stocking up on soap bottles would otherwise take. It’s so cool to hear more about how different cleaning/wellness companies are taking on conscious packaging!

Thank you for an interesting read! At a first glance, I thought the product was just a typical solid soap, not expecting it to be a multi-purpose cleaning tablet. It was very interesting to know that these tablets are not only environmentally friendly but more affordable. As you mentioned, it seems like the majority of people are not aware of this product. I thought one effective way to increase customers’ awareness is to sell to corporates to use their products as hand soap and as cleaning products in stores and offices. This would allow more people to become familiar with the product and its many benefits.

This is super interesting Lily! I really appreciate you highlighting how cleaning might be a key area in which we can eliminate some of the reasons why the industry is a hyper-pollutant. I’m curious as to your thoughts on what other products or industries this might be applicable to? For example, there are some shampoo brands shifting to tablets or powders which can be mixed with water in the shower to save on transporting the water to the store/homes. Beyond this, for example, Listerine has introduced a new way to make listerine with tablets that can be dissolved in water at home to create the iconic mouthwash. I’d love to hear your thoughts on which brands might be well positioned to take on this challenge!

Hi Lily, it was a great post! I came across Nature Bee recently in the Sauder HeWe Exam Care Package. I thought it was a great product and amazing to see that its women-led. I found that these plastic wraps worked really good. It was great to find out about more of their products. There’s a brand called Blueland that does powder dish soap. Their products have helped to eliminate over 1 billion single-use plastic bottles from landfills and oceans since 2019.
