My 5-year plan: professional and personal development paper
As students graduate, they are asked to look back through the course and their whole BCom, and then look ahead 5 years to consider the values and skills that they expect to develop and use. This can be considered as your emerging philosophy of management.
Consider this as the document you will value and look back over in coming years. For some it might be a variation on a “letter to your future self,” but one that you can look at as often as you like. So, what is your advice to your future self, based on your 4 or 5 years of your university experience? What have you learned academically and personally that really matters to you? And what do you want to learn, or experience, professionally, in the first few years of your career? This should include some elements of comm486M, but it should also cover other elements of your BCOM that are significant to you. This is intended as a personal document, only for your own eyes and use (and to be read by your Instructor).
Grading: stronger papers will show that students have internalized the intent of the assignment and have made serious and practical strides in making this personally useful, including specific examples and concepts. Weaker papers tend to lack personalization or authenticity or practicality to the writer. Please, do not simply regurgitate course outlines or theory.
Submission details (pdf only, file name format comm486M-2016-personal plan-lastname-firstname):
- cover page with name and student number and assignment title;
- 2 pages max, single spaced; sub-heads and bullet-point format are welcome;
- up to 2 pages of appendices with examples, references or charts. Creative elements or visual aids in the appendices are welcome if you find them personally useful.
