Topics range from academics, to student life, to seasonal posts! Blogs are posted every Friday during the Winter terms, and every second Friday during the Summer. We like to have a focus on first and second year topics as well as topics important for those new to UBC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 1: Pick a topic<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Topics are listed on the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/commons\/project-work-signup-sheet\/\">Project Work Sign-Up sheet<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 2: Project Work Proposal<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once you\u2019ve signed up for a project, complete a <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1tR2p8XbK7EzwGc1rSNxkE3n9J5zAHtHg142rP6JKXlo\/edit?usp=sharing\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1tR2p8XbK7EzwGc1rSNxkE3n9J5zAHtHg142rP6JKXlo\/edit?usp=sharing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Project Work Proposal<\/a> and send it to the CLC staff for approval.<br>Make a copy of the Project Work Proposal Google Doc to start filling out the project proposal template (File &gt; Make a Copy).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When writing your proposal, keep the following points in mind:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>What already exists that could be streamlined, improved, updated, or built upon?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What doesn\u2019t exist that would be beneficial to students and community members at UBC? Especially new and incoming students.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What is your timeline? When will will you have a 1st draft? 2nd draft? (we give feedback fast, but generally the process can take up to a week or two for edits)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Check out the CLC Student Needs Timeline (also linked at the bottom of this page). When will your project be complete and how does this line up with the student needs timeline?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Remember to keep the scope of your idea manageable within your time frame!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">NOTE: Do NOT start on your project before it is approved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Don&#8217;t see a topic you&#8217;re interested in? Propose your own! (See <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/commons\/project-work-proposal\/\">Project Work Proposal<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 3: Start for first draft<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Read <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/commons\/project-work-important-notes\/\">the style guide<\/a> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>before<\/strong><\/span> beginning your first draft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can download and fill in this blog post drafting template to get you started with ideas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/commons\/files\/2024\/10\/CLC-Blog-Post-Drafting-Template.docx\">CLC Blog Post Drafting Template<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Requirements:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Blog posts should be between 250-500 words maximum<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tone: Try to centre your own experiences, and avoid using too many second person sentences.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For example, instead of writing &#8220;<i>You should sign up for x,y,z<\/i>&#8220;, try &#8220;<i>I signed up for x,y,z and found it super helpful!<\/i>&#8220;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use the <a href=\"https:\/\/hemingwayapp.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow\" class=\"external text\">Hemingway Site<\/a> before submitting your blogpost draft to check if it&#8217;s easy to read! Aim for a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">grade 6 readability score<\/span>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">Your first draft should take no more than 1.5hrs to complete. <\/span>If you have worked on it for 1.5hrs and it is not yet complete, please talk to the Learning Services Librarian &amp; <a href=\"mailto:clc.staff@ubc.ca\">the CLC Staff<\/a> before continuing work on it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 4: Submit your draft for feedback<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><b>1st draft:<\/b> Peer review your first draft with a fellow Peer Advisor. Send them your draft &#8211; Google docs, Microsoft Word, or Pages is ok. <strong>No PDFs please<\/strong>.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Note: Please resolve ALL the comments made on your document before submitting a second draft (or ask clarifying questions on anything you are confused about)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have a look at <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/commons\/files\/2025\/07\/Feedback-guide-a-how-to.pdf\">this feedback guide<\/a> for a few tips on how to provide effective and collaborative feedback.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><b>2nd+ draft:<\/b> Email a second draft to <a href=\"mailto:clc.staff@ubc.ca\">the CLC Staff<\/a> for further staff feedback. All comments from this draft should be resolved before moving forward. Please note, there may be more than 2 rounds of feedback.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">Each round of feedback should take around 30 mins to integrate. <\/span>If you have worked on it for 30 mins and it is not yet complete, please talk to the Learning Services Librarian before continuing work on it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 5: Submit your final draft to the Senior CLCAs (formerly PALs)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Find images for your blog post. The image requirements are detailed on the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/commons\/project-work-important-notes\/\">blog here<\/a>,&nbsp;under &#8220;Images, Photography and Image Attribution&#8221;.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If you create media: If you are creating graphics see &#8220;Graphics&#8221; on the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/commons\/project-work-proposal\/\">blog here<\/a>. Always send the finalized media to <a href=\"mailto:clc.staff@ubc.ca\">the CLC Staff<\/a> first.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you use other people&#8217;s media: When using an image in your project work, it is important to write a correct attribution to credit the original creator of the image. See &#8220;Images, Photography and Image Attribution&#8221; (scroll through <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/commons\/project-work-proposal\/\">Project Work<\/a>) for more information.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Email your draft and photo(s) to the Web Team &#8211; their contact information is on the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/commons\/contacts\/clca-contact\/\">blog here<\/a>. Include in the Email:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Title of your&nbsp;blog<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Attach your final blog post <strong>as a PDF<\/strong> (if it&#8217;s a Google Docs please give us ACCESS!!)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Find and Attach images separately (find an image that you&#8217;d like to include,&nbsp;on Unsplash or UBC Flickr!)
