Robin Stoodley

Dr. Robin Stoodley is a senior instructor in the Department of Chemistry at UBC. There, he usually manages and teaches analytical chemistry laboratories for 3rd and 4th year students as well as teaches lecture sections of CHEM300, 319, and 341. His research background involved both chemistry and pharmaceutical sciences, specializing in a mixture of electrochemistry, models of drug action, spectroscopy and surface science. His teaching interests include complex problem-solving strategies and techniques for integration of clear communication with scientific content. He previously taught courses in chemistry, engineering chemistry, scientific writing, research proposal projects, and science and society at the University of Calgary. Prior to earning his Ph.D., he dabbled with various forms of gainful employment: in high-energy physics, in semiconductor physics, in law-enforcement, and in cooking fish n’ chips.

Richard Kil

Dr. Richard Kil is a new lecturer this year in the Department of Chemistry at UBC. His teaching thus far includes the analytical chemistry labs and communications courses in Chemistry and General Science. His previous teaching experiences have been primarily in thermodynamics and quantum mechanics at the University of Toronto. His background is in physical chemistry and human physiology, and his research interests have included protein chemistry, nanoparticle synthesis, and more! He earned his doctorate inventing a low-cost, cell-based blood test for tropical diseases using tools from synthetic biology. His teaching interests include teaching through analogy, improving presentation skills, and communication with the general public. Outside of academics he enjoys sports, gardening, and community outreach.
