There needs to be more data to validate <em>in silico<\/em> methods for use in risk assessment of chemicals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>insufficient amount of academic scientists participating in the research and design of animal testing alternatives.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>lack of a public and accessible database for scientists to access existing data.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>lack of comprehensive proof that an <em>in silico<\/em>\u00a0system is able to capture the complexity of an intact organism, which is required by regulatory agencies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>more basic research is needed to develop a better understanding of toxicological processes in tissues and organs before better predictive models can be developed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/div>\n<p><a title=\"globe by Patrick Q, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/patrick_q\/204252734\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" style=\"border-image: initial; border-width: 1px; border-color: black; border-style: solid;\" src=\"https:\/\/farm1.staticflickr.com\/72\/204252734_fba1eb1bb5_n.jpg\" alt=\"globe\" width=\"192\" height=\"256\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Other challenges that may limit the further implementation of <em>in silico<\/em>\u00a0methods include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>government agencies generally do not prioritize funding for alternatives to animal testing, thus causing a lack of funding for research.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>the regulatory agency acceptance processes can be unclear when dealing with <em>in silico<\/em>\u00a0methods.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>there is still a difficulty in convincing both the scientific and regulatory communities that <em>in silico<\/em>\u00a0methods can fulfil its \u00a0intended purpose as an alternative method.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Like all any new field of research, non-animal methods of toxicity research still needs to be further developed, validated, accepted, and implemented.
