Wellness Wednesday nine

I feel many people have gone through a similar scenario of being stressed over the wait for something. Whether this something is the results of a test, the news of something big or maybe even the wait before your flight takes off. Why is it that in these moments our mind usually goes to the worst case scenario?

I feel like that has been my story for the past month, where I constantly refresh pages, anxiously waiting for the news of something big, re-read everything despite my inability to alter the moment. My mind has been jumping to the worst case scenario.

I think that these moments are something that we should reflect upon and re-think in a positive manner. Maybe the outcome is going to be worth the wait, and everything we want and more. Maybe we did amazing. I hope we move towards implementing more positive thinking into our daily lives, because we deserve to expect ourselves to excel. We should be able to believe in ourselves everyday. We should worry less, stress less, and expect the best.

for an upcoming case of the Mondays

I know today is Monday and you assume it’s going to suck, but according to statistics, there will be over 5,000 wedding, 10,000 childbirths and 42 million hugs occurring today throughout the United States. Also today, there will be at least 4 people that will win the multimillion dollar lotteries, 600 people will get promotions at work, and 3000 people will lose their virginity. There will also be 600 dogs adopted, 35,000 balloons sold and 800,000 skittles sold. Plus, the words “I love you” will be said over 9 million times. So, again, I know today is Monday and you assume it’s going to suck, but just smile because according to statistics it should actually be a really nice day. -Unknown

C A N A D A

This past week has been amazing for Canada!

We have officially banned the import of shark fins, and increased protection and regulations for marine wildlife!

We also got to witness an amazing unifying experience of winning the NBA 2019 Finals! To see the streets lined up with so much joy, happiness, and collective support was inspiring. The sea of red, highlighting how proud we are to be Canadian, and support one another.

Quotes to Reflect Upon

Hi everyone, so it’s been quite some time since I have been able to post on here! The school year is over, and it’s finally sinking in that I am officially graduating soon.

In light of the past week being swarmed with news surrounding the controversial Alabama ban, I thought it would be more positive to post a few inspirational quotes here.

“Today is your opportunity to build the tomorrow you want” -Ken Poirot

“Never regret anything that made you smile” – Mark Twain

“If it costs you your peace, it is too expensive”

“Carry a heart that never hates. Carry a smile that never fades. Carry a touch that never hurts.”

“Don’t study because you need to. Study because knowledge is power. Study because they can never take it away from you. Study because you want to know more. Study because it enhances you. Study because it grows you.”

Happy Easter Long Weekend!

Wellness Wednesday seven

Finals season has officially begun here at UBC. During this period of time I often find myself getting exhausted, and neglecting my health both physically and mentally.

It becomes so easy to simply order food in, skip the gym to study a little more, and not get enough sleep.

However, I encourage you to try and take a breather. I have noticed over the past four years, that I tend to over-stress myself out. I think I cannot afford to spend a minute elsewhere. Yet, when I find time for myself, I realize these negative thoughts diminish in strength, as I feel refreshed for the day.

“Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.” -Maya Angelou

Wellness Wednesday six

Final Season is officially around the corner as the days of going to classes slowly rolls to a stop. For some of you this may be your first set of finals or maybe even your last. All year you’ve work endlessly to pull together assignments, quizzes, midterms, projects, and now all that’s left to conquer is a test.

I wanted to remind everyone that during this final period often the greatest of our stressors come out.

The feeling when you can’t grasp one concept or one question, even after trying tirelessly throughout the day.

It is important to know that trying your best and planning a study schedule ahead of time will help tremendously. I found that organizing ahead of time what to go over, and what classes I need to focus more on, has helped me throughout my undergrad.

While this is officially my last “finals season” at UBC, I look forward to providing greater insights regarding my experience as a student here, and to continue to facilitate a positive environment for those around me!

UBC FRST 302 Review

Hi everyone!

I thought I would share a review about Forestry 302 which is a course focused on genetics related to plants and conservation techniques. This course tends to have very dense lectures, which requires you to pay attention and take clear notes. This course is organized a way which eliminates the need for a final exam, and decreasing the stress load by having 5 non-cumulative quizzes. A thing to note is that these quizzes seem to come very quick as they essentially end up being biweekly quizzes!

The course material is quite interesting, but at times can be complex and hard to follow along. Often working through the information and piecing it together after lectures is going to help make the most sense! Be sure to keep up to date on the lecture content since quizzes are very detailed and the options can be confusing!

Layout:

5 in-class quizzes: 75% (top 4 quizzes are taken)

5 online quizzes: 25%

*note: the online quizzes have material that is completely separate from the course, therefore, this material was not tested on the in-class quizzes. This also meant that the information was not formally taught so sometimes it may make the quizzes slightly difficult to do!

Overall, this course is very detailed and focuses heavily on various forestry strategies and mechanisms. Be sure to keep up to date with all the material and ask questions along the way.
