Biology 11 – Platyhelminthes Lesson 4
Purpose: This lesson will allow students to observe live organisms to connect concepts about Platyhelminthes to the real world.
PLOs:
G1. Analyse how the increasing complexity of animal phyla represents an evolutionary continuum
G3. Analyse the increasing complexity of the Phylum Platyhelminthes, the Phylum Nematoda, and the Phylum Annelida
SWBAT:
- describe classes of Platyhelminthes
- describe the ecological role of Platyhelminthes
- describe how Platyhelminthes carry out life functions
Materials: Live planaria, eyedroppers, microscopes, slides, prods, flashlights, black felts, piece of meat, preserved tapeworm and fluke specimen, worksheet.
Introduction:
Student Activity | Teacher Activity | Time |

Pair/Share observations made during the lab. | Ask students to share behaviours they observed. How can you explain the behaviours based on structures have learned about. | 5 min |
