Accelerating climate action on the global stage

Welcome to the blog of BC Youth Delegates to COP 23, UBC Caucus

We are five UBC students who are concerned about our generation’s future in the face of climate change, and are passionate about empowering youth, civil society, Indigenous groups, and other non-party stakeholders to fight for their rights to a sustainable climate future.

This blog will share our experiences and perspectives at the 23rd Conference of Parties (COP23) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Bonn, Germany, 2017. We will be attending as NGO Observers under the BC Council for International Cooperation, who is sending 7 youth delegates to the UN Climate Conference this year. Our delegation represents a diverse collection of disciplines that all contribute to mitigating and adapting to climate change, including Political Science, International Economics, Psychology, International Development, Marine Biology, and Asian Studies.

At the conference, we will observe countries negotiate the implementation of the Paris Climate Agreement, attend informative side events hosted by NGO’s and other stakeholders, and meet in person with high-level political figures to stress the need to include youth and civil society in processes within UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

We look forward to sharing our experiences, and more importantly, engaging with as many BC and Canadian youth as possible to have their voices heard on the international stage.
