Naididae sp. setaed

Page

Easily identifiable by the long setae and their way of moving. They make very quick advance-and-retreat moves with the anterior part of the body before advancing in a particular direction. In life, the color of the body is white with hues of blue or yellow. They are very small –the ones collected in fall 2019 ranged from 1 -6 mm, though most were 2-3 mm– and split easily under stress. We assume it’s only one species, though only one individual had a successful sequencing, so it could potentially have cryptic diversity.
