Similar to Polypedilum or Chironomus species to the naked eye for its red coloration. Its head is truncated and flattened instead of rounded and can look like embedded in thorax. Torax broader than rest of long body. It has distinct, long, finger-shaped anal tubercles. Anal setae and procercus not evident.
