Making Sense of an Epoch: A Companion Guide to the Anthropocene

DOWNLOAD THE GUIDE

Our healing is entangled: with one another, and with the planet. It is a dense knot of interconnection, for which there is no one right place to start. No single string one could follow through it to the end. No amount of brute strength that could pull it apart. There is no straightforward way to untangle ourselves and the world from these times.

Instead, we must turn this knot over in our hands, slightly loosening one string at a time. Making space to see where the hurts lie, how they are endlessly intertwined, and what can be done about it. The exercises in this companion guide hope to do just that: to help you pull gently on certain threads, a practice of tracing, loosening and unraveling over and over again.

This book is yours to write in, draw in, cross out, or tear up.

The exercises that follow are invitations to reflect on the idea of a global epoch called the Anthropocene. These prompts are not all-emcompassing, not a map for how to get from Point A to Point B. Rather, they throw up sparks, lead one astray from master narratives & leave their meaning up for you to decide.

What are we talking about when we talk about “the Anthropocene”? Part I of this guide will introduce you to this proposed epoch and prompt you to explore your own perspectives on it.

What is it like to be living during this time? Whatever you choose to call the times you are living in, Part II hopes to bring you into deeper relation with them.

How do you want to live inside these changing worlds? In Part III, we offer prompts for considering ways you want to be living differently in the time that you are in.
