This Facebook page was shared with me through my little sister, who lives in Grandmothers Bay in Northern Saskatchewan. This Facebook page helps to show how one teacher is doing land-based education in their classrooms and how to share it with others. These videos can be shared with other classrooms and used to educate students who may not have access to the same opportunities.

Thank you for this post Kayli! I think land based education is so important and something that needs to be incorporated into all K-12 curricula. I think that this type of education ties in nicely with Ron Scollon’s “The Axe Handle Academy: A Proposal for a Bioregional, Thematic Humanities Education” and how he talks about how if students learned about the bioregion in which they live, they will learn to think about the consequences of their actions as it pertains to the earth and its resources. Being able to have hands on learning experience on the land would go a long way to instilling a sense of ownership and responsibility for the land, into the students. As technology advances it seems that the world is moving further away from a connection to the land and land based learning as a part of K-12 curricula could be a great way to help reverse that trend.
