M4 Post 1: Indigenous Youth Wellness

https://www.indigenousyouthwellness.ca

Indigenous youth wellness is a website created by BC Aboriginal health; they also have a youtube channel. They have links to various sites and useful information regarding Indigenous wellness. The website is on the older side and looks to be no longer updated but has good information and links to useful websites.

  1. Hi Kayli-Shandra,
Thank you so much for including this delicious post!
Working with International students, I can’t tell you how many times I have argued with them that pizza, hot dogs and french fries are NOT traditional Canadian foods (unless you embellish the fries and get into the world of Poutine, of course).
This week my students were able to witness an offering of elk stew to elders and to the land. We were able to taste the stew and eat bannock by a traditional fire that smoked salmon on cedar planks.
Over the summer I ate at Salmon and Bannock (https://www.salmonandbannock.net/) in Vancouver while attending the Summer Session on campus. It was not a meal, it was an experience. We were spoken to by all people working there. They acted as a team. We had long conversations about the food and where it came from prior to ordering anything.
Please go and eat at this restaurant if you are in Vancouver. I think they also recently opened one at the airport to showcase Indigenous food to International folks.
