M3 Post 4: Coders North

Coders North is a website that has learning modules for teachers to use to help them teach students. This is for students in grades 8-12 and has 7 lessons about Indigenization, Indigitization and Indigitalization. It has videos and interactive modules for the students to work through; they talk about how the students can change the world through coding. They have a video library and student showcase to help with lessons and information.

  1. Great post Kayli! I found this to be incredibly interesting and can be a significant resource for Indigenous youth. Hearing the different coders, professors and artists talk about the importance of Indigenizing digital spaces and why Indigenous participation in the development of technology is so important really hit home. Being able to use AI and different technologies to help to preserve Indigenous languages is a long uphill battle, especially with these technologies being developed in English or related languages, and with Indigenous language structures being so different, these technologies would need to be developed specifically for the many different Indigenous languages. Having more Indigenous coders would go a long way in helping to preserve Indigenous languages amongst many other benefits.
