The conference was dedicated to exploring new ways of thinking about, understanding, and seeing\u00a0<em>Crime and Punishment<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-32 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/cp150\/files\/2016\/07\/CP-Ras.jpg\" alt=\"C&amp;P-Ras\" width=\"250\" height=\"250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/cp150\/files\/2016\/07\/CP-Ras.jpg 250w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/cp150\/files\/2016\/07\/CP-Ras-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/>The original call for papers is available <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/cp150\/conference-program\/call-for-papers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The program is online <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/cp150\/conference-program\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>New!<\/strong><\/em> A collection of recorded talks from the conference is available <a href=\"https:\/\/open.library.ubc.ca\/collections\/77752\/browse\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The event featured\u00a0two days of panels with speakers from Canada, the US, the UK, Australia, and Cuba, as well as a keynote address from Prof. Carol Apollonio (Duke), a special plenary panel contextualizing the novel with papers by Louise McReynolds (UNC-Chapel Hill), William Mills Todd, III (Harvard), and Elena Baraban (Manitoba), and a closing roundtable reflecting on Dostoevsky&#8217;s importance today. A panel featuring Sarah Hudspith (Leeds) and Oliver Ready (New College, Oxford) took place at the University of Bristol on October 21 and was video-linked in to the Vancouver conference.<\/p>\n<p>The conference also included a screening of a new Australian adaptation of the novel:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt2468804\/\"><em>Crime and Punishment<\/em> (Apocalypse Films, 2015)<\/a> on October 20 at <a href=\"https:\/\/viff.org\/Online\/default.asp?doWork::WScontent::loadArticle=Load&amp;BOparam::WScontent::loadArticle::article_id=B6B5164D-753B-4527-B26C-7F8954CFD8CE\">Vancity Theatre (1181 Seymour Street)<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>October 20-22, 2016,\u00a0&#8220;Crime and Punishment at 150,&#8221;\u00a0an international conference bringing together scholars, students, and members of the public interested in Dostoevsky&#8217;s 1866 novel, took place at Green College on the campus of the University of British Columbia.
