{"id":166,"date":"2017-09-11T15:08:06","date_gmt":"2017-09-11T22:08:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/cpsc544\/?page_id=166"},"modified":"2022-09-04T16:26:44","modified_gmt":"2022-09-04T23:26:44","slug":"project","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/cpsc544\/","title":{"rendered":"LANDING PAGE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The purpose of the <strong>CPSC 544 Team Design Project<\/strong> is to apply the research and design methods we are learning about in this course in a concrete way.\u00a0 You will work through major phases of Design Thinking with your team in six iterative milestones.\u00a0 The general goals of each milestone are as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Empathize:\n<ul>\n<li>Better understand the user community and existing technologies in the problem space<\/li>\n<li>Clarify a problem that might benefit from interactive technology<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Define:\n<ul>\n<li>Develop a deeper appreciation of and justification for the proposed interactive design<\/li>\n<li>Establish a firmer design direction<\/li>\n<li>Determine the best methods to gather information from a representative user group<\/li>\n<li>Focus on asking the \u201cright\u201d questions to understand potential users and their contexts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Ideate:\n<ul>\n<li>Identify tasks and perform a task analysis to further refine the design direction<\/li>\n<li>Create and prioritize requirements<\/li>\n<li>Explore conceptual design alternatives through storyboarding<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Prototype:\n<ul>\n<li>Develop a low fidelity prototype.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Evaluate:\n<ul>\n<li>Conduct a cognitive walkthrough of your prototype with team members\/classmates<\/li>\n<li>Perform a user test of your prototype with a representative sample of people<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Refine:\n<ul>\n<li>Apply what you learned from the cognitive walkthrough and user test to refine your prototype<\/li>\n<li>Construct a medium-fidelity prototype<\/li>\n<li>Document and justify your design decisions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">These phases are not always linear and there are many different methods and techniques that can be used depending on the design problem, population, environment and so on.
