The factors were chosen based on ecological framework modeling conducted by E-Flora BC using the BC Ministry of Forests and Range BEC database, as well as habitat and range information.
Malus fucas prefers low-mid elevation, south-west aspect, and slopes averaging 6%. This species is commonly found along stream banks, estuaries, lowland bogs and marshes, and in open forest. M. fucas is tolerant to very wet soils (5-8 soil moisture regime) and commonly occurs in areas with soil nutrient class D (Klinkenberg, 2013)
In this MCE, the factors that I have chosen to include are: Elevation, Slope, Aspect, Soil Nutrient Regime, and Tree Cover Pattern. The constraint that I included is the field monitoring area that we access for bear monitoring. The information for this has a buffer around the sites to protect their integrity.
Factors: Elevation
Slope
Aspect
Soil Nutrient Regime
Constraint: Field Monitoring Area
