Hi Everybody,
Thank you so much for coming by!
My name is Craig Ferguson and I work as the Educational Technology Specialist at a non-profit here in Vancouver. My job combines project management, learning technology, instructional design, curriculum development, and media development (we’re a little understaffed).
I got into learning technology in an unusual way: my background is actually in business (MM class of 2012!) and I was initially hired to write a business plan for the education department to help them become financially sustainable. But I was given more and more educational-technology tasks, and quickly realized I loved it, and I haven’t looked back!
I’m passionate about educational technology because of the way that it extends classrooms and augments the abilities of teachers. Technology connects classrooms to the world by creating a conduit for knowledge, communication, and collaboration right into the hands of teachers, and it also connects the world to classrooms – by creating the opportunity for flexible and responsive learning, people who otherwise wouldn’t be able to attend on-campus courses can still benefit from an education. I’ve seen this personally in the way that my organization has made standardized, high quality educational opportunities available to people all over Canada.
I look forward to working and sharing with all the other people in this course!
Craig
