Watch Never Let Me Go?
I’ve been pretty fortunate, lately, to have been watching amazing and in-depth movies such as Black Swan and Never Let Me Go. This film is absolutely brilliant. I’m sure it’s not as thematic as the book is, but if you feel like a thinker or a movie that will make you feel and empathize with the characters, than this is definitely one to see.
The Good: Never Let Me Go features three of Britain’s most gifted young actors who have successfully crossed over into Hollywood. Andrew Garfield, Carey Mulligan and Keira Knightley are all fantastic and I hope that they continue to become successful and recognized for their brilliance.
The Great: The thematic element of Never Let Me Go is quite powerful. If you’re willing to looking into its themes, you’ll find yourself analyzing human cloning, art, childhood/youth, and what it means to have a soul. In some ways, a book is more able to capture themes than movies, but it was pretty clear that these were heavy themes that Ishiguro placed in his book that the director was trying to emulate.
I highly recommend this film to anyone who wants to see good acting, a great story and wants a bit of a thinker. You can talk/debate/argue about the themes of this movie for days and days. I think that’s the beauty of a film like this. It raises healthy and intelligent conversation and I wish more films were around that did the same.
