The Day I Met Anna Torv, John Noble and Joshua Jackson…
So, I really should be studying, but I’ve decided that the only way to truly focus on a boring, lame textbook is to write it all out and get it off my chest.
It all started last night, when, walking to one of my classes, I noticed a Vista Cruiser and a Boston police car parked outside Buchanan Tower. Vista Cruiser, in my Fringe-manipulated mind automatically means Bishop-Mobile and I instinctively looked around to see if John Noble or Joshua Jackson were around. No such luck. I did, however, come across some pretty friendly crew members who told me that they were filming a stunt scene the next day and that Joshua, John, Anna Torv and Lance Reddick were supposed to be around. Sweet, I say. I’ll come back to campus on Friday when, by the way, I don’t have class, just to see if there’s a chance I can meet any of them.
I even stayed later than usual just to see if they would, by any chance, be driving back to their trailers at 7. But, alas, they weren’t back and I had to head home for dinner with my parents. I told myself that I would meet at least one of them tomorrow anyway…
Day 2. Today. It’s raining pretty damn hard and I wake up with faith that I’ll meet Joshua Jackson and/or Anna Torv and eat red vines with them. Okay, maybe not the second part, but the meeting sounded possible and cool enough. When I get to UBC, I start schmoozing with crew members and PA’s just trying to charm my way into meeting anyone. One of them actually gives me a slide or a call sheet and tells me to keep it as a souvenir. Another, literally, opens up the Vista Cruiser, gets me to sit in it and tells me that he’ll snap a photo of me right beside it. (I felt almost like I was violating Bishop territory and space and that Walter Bishop might notice that someone else had been in his car. This is clearly Fringe-nerd thinking.) Anyway, this all happened at around 10:15. At 10:30, a car pulls up and I see Lance Reddick inside. I wave. He waves back and jumps out and says, hi. Too dumbfounded to even say anything, I just stand there like a complete idiot and think, BROYLES JUST SAID HI TO ME. Do normal people have this reaction to celebrities or is that just me?
Anyway, he walks into Buchanan Tower and as I look back to the car, I see a black beanie. Yeah. A black beanie. Under the black beanie? Anna Torv’s blonde head and before I could even say hello or PLEASE SIGN SOMETHING, she walks into the building. Big fail. BIG FAIL. I start talking to other PA’s and extras who were answering typical bystander questions, and after about 30 minutes, they start shooting. The Observer’s start point is 4 feet from where I’m standing, I see Anna and Lance talking by the entrance of the building and extras dressed as cops moving around. Clearly, this is a murder scene and clearly, Dunham and Broyles have just been called onto the scene.
I keep talking with PA’s and extras and after a pretty interesting conversation, I drop the bomb: “Sooo… do you think there’s any chance of snapping a photo with Anna Torv?” James, the friendly PA, says, “YEAH, let me ask my AD [Assistant Director].” I wait for a while because they’re still shooting, but once they’re done, James pulls me over and says, “Come with me.” He takes me UNDER the yellow tape and through the set. I was fascinated. Everyone’s staring at me, but it’s all cool because I’m gonna meet someone pretty damn cool. I wait by this cool tent, and meet the assistant director who talks to me about the show: what I like about it, who’s my favorite character (Dunham, obvz), and if I’ll keep watching even if it’s on Fridays (I have a PVR… duh). Anyway, 5 minutes later, Anna and Lance walk up and I shake hands with Lance who says he’s got to make a phone call so he darts off, but Anna sticks around and I say, “Great toque.”
WHAT?! MY FIRST LINES ARE “GREAT TOQUE?!” Seriously?! But yeah, it happened. And she laughs and shakes my hand and I ask her if it’s alright if I get a photo and an autograph from her. She says, “SURE!” in this Aussie accent that’s pretty interesting to hear out loud when you’re used to her being all American. The coolest part is that she’s actually extremely polite and well spoken. I told her she could just sign my iPhone case and she said, “Ohh, nooo. I don’t want to ruin your case,” to which I replied, “I’m too big of a dork to care.” She laughed of course. I’m hilarious. Duh. But I tell her that I saw her on Craig Ferguson and Ellen and that those are some of my favorite interviews ever. She says she loves Ellen. (Who doesn’t?!) But then she keeps trying to find a piece of paper for her to sign, getting PA’s running around and stuff. I felt so bad. Finally, she just signed my iPhone case and took the photo even checking to see if a crew member did it right. He didn’t because he pressed the wrong button, so we take another and all is well. She gave me a hug and walked with me off the set and I am just grinning from ear to ear. I told her that I hope Dunham keeps kicking ass and not to give Peter any leeway, and she said that she’d try. I thanked her, for what seemed like the billionth time, and she said, “Thanks for being a true fan!” And we parted ways.
I think this is a great sign for Fringe. I hope they stick around for a while because it’s a great show that’s got, what looks like, a lot of loyal fans who deserve to be entertained by the Bishops, Dunham, Astrid, Broyles and the show’s storylines.
Conclusion? Anna’s really nice, polite, and is super pretty in person. It’s unfair, but I’m really, really glad I met her. She’s super awesome and I hope that she keeps kicking ass.
This Friday, Fringe is back in my life AND I met Anna Torv. All is well in Cassie’s nerd world.
UPDATE: Just met John Noble and Joshua Jackson.
Was obvz creeping the set again on the walk from the library and there John Noble was by the dumpster chillin like a villain. What a badass. He is super sweet and his accent is awesome. Took a photo with him and told him he was great and he thanked me for watching the show! Resisted the urge to offer him red vines and offering to put another shrimp on the barbie.
A few minutes later, Joshua Jackson walked up to talk to John Noble and John was like, “Josh, I think this young lady might like a photo with you,” and he brought Josh TO where I was standing and I stood there with my mouth open… Like Kristen Stewart in every photo I’ve ever seen of her. I digress. I asked him for two autographs (for my friend, Jenny) and he goes, “The closer I get, the more she asks of me!!!” WITTY and I LIKE IT. He took off his gloves and I found out that he was left handed so I said, “Oh! I didn’t know you were left-handed.” He then asked me if I was, and I said, “Noo, I’m normal.” And he literally laughed out loud. I MADE JOSHUA JACKSON LOL. He then said, “Oh trust me, I most definitely am not normal.” And he hugged me and I said, “Thank you!!” and walked away before I made a further fool of myself.
On Fringe Friday, I met the Fringe tri-fecta. Doesn’t get any better than that for this nerd!
OMG!! SO JEALOUS!!!
[…] This post was mentioned on Twitter by Rebecca Aden, werd. and Fringe On Set, FringeWatch. FringeWatch said: Spoilers – "The Day I Met Anna Torv" – Fan Set Report, Fringe Filming at UBC, Jan 21 (crashtalk) http://bit.ly/eYhY4v […]
SO JEALOUS! But reading this made me smile and laugh so much. This cast is just so amazing.
I think I actually did know that Josh is left-handed! I’ve noticed Peter write with his left hand a few times on the show.
This is so awesome! I wish I didn’t live on another ontinent… I hope you had really much fun! 🙂
Well, the ‘ontinent’ was meant to be ‘continent’. 😀
Love your story how you met them! I LOL on this part.. I said, ?Noo, I?m normal.? 😀
Cool story!
That is awesome!! Can’t believe how lucky you are. Man I hate being overseas. I’d be so awesome to talk to them all. Especially John and Anna. (As a fellow Aussie). ToT
@Andy Yeah! It was pretty cool. Anna’s got a house in Brisbane apparently and goes home when filming’s done. Find her! hahah
i’m so jealous! wish i can meet the cast of fringe someday but unfortunately i’m from another continent too like one commenter here, so the chance is so slim. maybe in the alternate universe i will? 🙂 anyway, am happy for you and thanks for sharing this. i love the cast more now that i knew your experience meeting them.
@gabie07 I was pretty lucky to happen across the set. Luck is about 90% of it! They were all sooo nice and Josh is a super funny person so I’m pretty glad I got to know them on a different level than just characters on a TV show!
Oh! how awesome ! you can met Anna Torv, i am the one of the loyal fan of Anna Torv and of cause of Fringe too, i really hope that i can meet Anna Torv someday, she is my heroine! i love her so much!!!
Wow, how lucky you are!! I’m such a huge fan of Fringe, and of Anna! But I may have as much luck as you, coz I’m from France but I arrive in Van on the 20th of Feb for one year, and no way I don’t go on the set and meet the cast one day. I’m even thinking of trying to be an extra on the show, that would be pretty damn cool right!
Oh and btw, do you know where we can have info on where they are shooting in Van? Or is this just a matter of luck and hazard?
Again, I envy you for what you lived 🙂
