Page Turner: Heart of the Matter

Published by under Page Turners

Heart of the Matter – Emily Giffin = your typical chick lit book.

I didn’t necessarily love it, but I didn’t hate it either. She always writes such real characters that you can’t help seeing yourself or someone you know in her stories.

The Good: It’s an easy read; it’s a book that you can read within a day and be so engrossed in the story and characters that you put off everything else that you’re supposed to be doing that day. Drink it with a glass of wine or right before bed, but either way, you’re gonna dig it if you want to be subtly entertained by a chicklit story.

The Bad: The ending. I didn’t feel like there was any real conclusion to either of the two women’s stories. Not as great as her previous books, but it was good until the last 10 pages.

Her books are such a guilty pleasure that a girl will always enjoy reading it. I was just a taaaaaaad disappointed with how it ended because it could’ve been so much better, but that’s just me!

Website of the Week

Published by under Art,Website Of The Week

Like art? Check out www.fromupnorth.com

While most websites feature just art in one dimension or another, From Up North tackles different types of art and categorizes them quite neatly. My favorite section is Quotations, but the cool part is that you’ll eventually find one category or several categories that suit your likes and tastes because there are so many parts to the site.

The best part is that the site reminds you that art is everywhere. It’s in words, pictures, drawings, even logos and advertising and that whether you regard something as art depends on how you view something.

Stupidest Question to Ask a Closing Business…

Published by under Annoyances,Life

When customers find out an establishment is closing, they always ask “WHY?!”

OF COURSE the answer is because it doesn’t make enough money to satisfy the corporation. Do you really think it’d be closing because it’s making bumloads of money and the store just wants to get out while it’s good?!

It baffles me how some people just really. don’t. think.

Watch Crips and Bloods: Made in America

Published by under Dig It,Movies

As a documentary fanatic, I’m always looking for new documentaries to watch and learn from. I randomly came across Crips and Bloods: Made in America on Netflix and knew right away that I needed to watch it. Watch it. I guarantee that you’ll have a whole new view on gangs, gang members and the violence that’s taking place during turf wars.

Through interviews and archival footage, the film works to explain the culture and development that lays in the heart of the Crips and Bloods and why they’re at war with one another. It shows how the deadly combination of poverty, lack of opportunity, oppression, and discrimination was at the root of the rise of the gangs and the violence that’s taking place in south central LA.

Criminal Minds: Sociopaths, Serial Killers and Other Deviants

Published by under Page Turners

Just finished reading this book and I couldn’t believe how fascinating it was. For fans of the show Criminal Minds and true crime enthusiasts, this book provides a link between the cases you’ve seen on TV and real life serial killers and crimes. Like the show, the book is gruesome and visual at times (like this dude that wore the skin of females and made a vest out of breasts and a belt out of nipples). Creeeeeepy.

YES! Do it. It’s action-packed and filled with tons of laughs. John Malkovich is delightfully kooky (as usual) and Helen Mirren is badass and absolutely hilarious.

NEW: Website of the Week 12/26/10

Published by under Dig It,Website Of The Week

Hunting for the best accessories, best skins and best cases for your iPhone, iPod, laptop or iPad?! I recently stumbled on a pretty cool website that specializes in “retro” and, what they call, community designed goodness. The skins range from being cute to retro to absolutely hilarious and they’re pretty cheap compared to the lame Zagg skins. Definitely digging this site!

Browse happy, iLovers: http://www.infectious.com/iphone-skins

Check out my favourite skin. It’s damn cool.
