We are losing coral reef worldwide. That is the sad truth, however there is hope! People are working hard to preserve these beautiful ecosystems all around the globe. The Coral Restoration Foundation is a great example of this!
The Coral Restoration Foundation (CRF) is based in Tavernier, Florida, United States of America. The organization is “dedicated to creating offshore nurseries and restoration programs for threatened coal species” , with a mission focusing on promoting public awareness about coral reefs, taking actions to preserve them, and focusing on creating measurable results in restoration of coral reefs.
By acquiring funding and sponsorship from large organizations such as the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), smaller regional organizations, and volunteering efforts from like-minded coral reef conversation activists, CRF has already restored over 25,000 staghorn and elkhorn coral frags in their nurseries.
Further more, CRF has ambitious plans of growing an additional 50,000 corals in the Florida Keys region. They actively engage with other international organizations, sharing their leadership and expertise in offshore nursery and restoration methods. Through this they have established close partnership with organizations in countries like Bonaire and Colombia, and gained a reputation as world leaders in coral restoration.
