Assessment

For the Moodle assessment project, I decided to make a diagnostic quiz for my Français Langue 9 students to complete. The quiz assesses a number of skills that they (should have) learned in Français Langue 8, primarily grammatical concepts, reading comprehension and writing ability. Ideally, I could use the feedback from this assessment to gauge what I need to review from last year and what I can skim over. While this quiz evaluates several things that my students should know, it is still incomplete and I will need to add to it significantly to make it more comprehensive. Nonetheless, I believe that I have the start of a pretty solid assessment tool that can certainly be of use to me this coming fall when classes resume.

Overall, I was quite happy with how straightforward it was to learn how to make a quiz using Moodle. I have used other computer assessment programs in the past, namely LXR test and Examview, but this program afforded me the greatest number of options. The options that I found particularly useful were the feedback and the ability to load images quite easily. Feedback is critical to students, and it is nice that this program allows for the inclusion of fairly detailed feedback. I will definitely look to use Moodle for assessment in my Français Langue 9 class, though I will need to play with it some more before I know whether it could be of value in my Sciences Naturelles 9 or Mathématiques 9 classes.
