Today I was able to watch a lesson on The Zones of Regulation from a resource teacher. She was introducing the concepts to the class in a really fun and easy to understand way. She had them driving a car (relating to the idea of the stop lights as the red, yellow and green) and with every colour they would drive a different way. After the lesson I was able to go with the teacher to the zone room where she explained what it’s for and how the students use the room. I was so interested and learned a lot from her. I think that there are some strong relationships between this and my training in restorative action, which is probably why I am so interested. I’d really like to try and do a workshop on The Zone of Regulation to expand my knowledge.
Zones of Regulation is another really good program that uses SEL concepts and concrete ideas to reinforce self regulation. I have a copy of the book I would be happy to lend you.
